CJI Gavai Leads Gandhi Jayanti Celebration At Mauritius Mahatma Gandhi Institute

Chief Justice of India Bhushan Ramakrishna Gavai, with his family, led Gandhi Jayanti celebrations at Mauritius’ Mahatma Gandhi Institute.

He paid floral tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, on his birth anniversary during the ceremony.

The Mahatma Gandhi Institute, established jointly by India and Mauritius, symbolises shared heritage, cultural cooperation, and collective historical responsibility.

Justice Gavai is on a three-day official visit to Mauritius, reinforcing judicial and cultural ties between both nations.

Mauritius ministers, parliamentarians, junior ministers, and senior officials participated actively, honouring Gandhi’s enduring message of peace, non-violence, and truth.

The Hon Kaviraj Sharma Sukon, Minister of Tertiary Education, Science and Research, attended alongside Chief Justice Gavai.

The Hon Mahend Gungapersad, Minister of Education and Human Resources, also participated, highlighting educational cooperation between India and Mauritius.

Anurag Srivastava (Indian diplomat of the Indian Foreign Service), High Commissioner of India and senior officials also participated in the ceremony.

Other dignitaries, including Members of Parliament and senior Mauritian officials, joined, adding depth, reverence, and solidarity to the occasion.

The ceremony blended solemnity and vibrancy, featuring floral tributes, cultural reflections, and tributes to Gandhi’s universal ideals of humanity.

Justice Gavai emphasised Gandhi’s timeless relevance for global ethics, justice, leadership, and harmonious coexistence in today’s interconnected, divided world.

Mauritius, home to a strong Indian diaspora, continues celebrating Gandhi’s legacy through institutions nurturing culture, education, and Gandhian philosophy.

The Gandhi Jayanti program highlighted emotional bridges between democracies, strengthening bilateral friendship through shared traditions and collective remembrance.

India and Mauritius reaffirmed their commitment to Gandhian values, nurturing a historical legacy while advancing cultural partnerships for sustainable, ethical cooperation.

Chief Justice Gavai’s participation symbolised India’s heartfelt message: Gandhi’s principles remain universal beacons guiding present and future generations worldwide.
