AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan Granted Anticipatory Bail In Police Obstruction Case

AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan received significant relief from Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court, which granted him anticipatory bail in a case involving the obstruction of government work. The court set the bail amount at Rs 25,000 on a personal bond, along with a surety of the same amount.

The court also placed certain conditions on Khan, including cooperation with the ongoing investigation, refraining from tampering with evidence, and not leaving the country without prior permission from the court.

On February 10, Delhi Police registered a case against Khan, accusing him of obstructing government employees in Jamia Nagar. The case, which includes charges such as attacking the police, inciting riots, and obstructing government work, led to the legal proceedings that culminated in the anticipatory bail request.

In his defense, Khan has claimed that he is being falsely implicated and has denied any wrongdoing.

Khan’s Defense And Police Response

During the last hearing, Khan’s lawyer argued that he had become a ‘soft target.’ The court questioned the Delhi Police about the availability of CCTV footage from the incident. Subsequently, the police provided relevant footage related to Khan’s interrogation.

Incident Leading To The Case

According to Delhi Police, the incident occurred when a crime branch team went to apprehend Shahbaz Khan, a fugitive wanted for attempted murder. Police officials claim that Amanatullah Khan and his supporters intervened in the operation, helping Shahbaz escape.

Khan, in turn, denies these allegations and asserts that he was simply fulfilling his duties as an elected representative. During the altercation with the police, Khan allegedly managed to escape after a brief struggle.

Legal And Police Proceedings

The FIR against Khan references several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including sections 221 (disobedience), 132 (obstruction of duty), and 121 (criminal conspiracy).

According to police officials, the crime branch team had been executing an operation to arrest Shahbaz Khan, who had been involved in a 2018 attempted murder case. Police stated that the altercation occurred when Khan interfered with the arrest process.

The court’s decision to grant anticipatory bail provides Khan with temporary relief as the investigation continues. The outcome of the case could have significant implications, as it reflects the ongoing tensions between local political figures and law enforcement agencies.
