ZPM Leader Lalduhoma Sworn In As The Chief Minister Of Mizoram In Presence Of Ex CM

Lalduhoma, the leader of the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), was sworn in as Chief Minister(CM) of Mizoram on Friday. In the presence of outgoing chief minister Zoramthanga and head of the Mizo National Front, Vanlalruata, the leader of the party was sworn in as a Cabinet Minister at Raj Bhavan.

Lalchhandama Ralte, the leader of the MNF parliamentary party, was among the MLAs who attended the function. Lal Thanhawla, a former chief minister, was also there.

Lalduhoma asserted his claim to form the state government during a meeting with the governor on Thursday.

“We talked about the formation of the new government. He had asked me to form government which will be done on Friday and next week we’ll have the first session. We are very happy and were very honored by the Governor. Our priority is to buy agriculture products and we have selected four items for that,” he said after meeting the Governor.

The Mizoram state polls

After the assembly polls on Monday, the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) emerged victorious, taking 27 seats and defeating the Mizo National Front (MNF), which had held a significant lead. The Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came up well behind, with one and two seats, respectively.

According to Eddy Zosangliana, general secretary of ZPM media cell, Lalduhoma and the Val Upa Council, the party’s advisory body, convened on Wednesday to deliberate how to organize the council of ministers. Mizoram can have 12 ministers, including the chief minister, with a 40-member assembly.

The pledge taken by new Mizoram CM

Lalduhoma pledged that his party will build a resource mobilization team for financial reforms after assuming the government. “Mizoram is facing financial crises… That is what we are going to inherit from the outgoing government…We are going to fulfill our commitment… Financial reform is necessary, and for that, we are going to make a resource mobilization team.”

He also underlined that farmers would receive first attention should his party win the Mizoram assembly elections on November 7. In addition, he pledged to build three more hydroelectric dams with a combined capacity of about 300 MW and guaranteed that electricity rates would not rise over the next five years.
