Western disturbance likely to cause rainfall/snowfall in Himalayan region; cold wave to hit Delhi again in next 2 days

Amidst the fresh western cyclonic disturbance prevailing in the northern region, it will produce rain or snow with locally heavy falls across Western Himalayan Region from Saturday to Monday, with a total snowfall amount of 80-100 cm.

The southwesterly winds from the Arabian Sea containing moisture will converge with winds delivered by a high-pressure system over East India. The winds are likely to spread rain with thunderstorms across East Rajasthan to NCR and adjoining areas late weekend to early next week.

The maximum temperature will be below to well below normal over North India and adjoining areas during this projection period. Readings will remain at 20 degrees Celsius or even cooler around NCR, the report added.

There is the possibility of light to moderate rainfall in states including Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi and its NCR. From Saturday i.e. January 28, the movement of clouds will be seen over the northern plains. This will lead to bone-chilling temperatures for the next 2 days, the weather agency said.

Scattered rain with thunderstorms is likely over Andaman & Nicobar Islands and East Rajasthan.

Isolated rain with thunderstorms will lash West Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, West Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat Region, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh.

Dense fog may blanket Central India and Northeast India in the morning hours.

Air qualities are likely to be very poor in Central India and East India. Poor over North India, Northeast India, West India and South India.

Delhi’s Weather Report

The IMD has predicted the maximum temperature to reach 22 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature is likely to reach 5 degrees Celsius in the capital Delhi. However, on January 29, people may have to face severe colds due to the western disturbance. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 17 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Also, a yellow alert has also been issued by the IMD regarding the rain tomorrow.
