Rajya Sabha MP and former Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma urged Muslims to vote for the BJP at least once, saying they had so far voted to defeat the party but should now consider supporting it.
Addressing a Tiranga Yatra organised by the BJP Minority Morcha for Muslim women, Dinesh Sharma said the BJP government had not discriminated against any section of society after coming to power. He claimed that welfare schemes of the Narendra Modi government had also improved the lives of members of the Muslim community.
Dinesh Sharma said the enthusiasm of thousands of Muslim women and young people participating in the event reflected their response to government policies.
Rajya Sabha MP highlighted the abolition of triple talaq, saying the law had provided Muslim women greater dignity and freedom. He maintained that the measure was not introduced for electoral gains.
Dinesh Sharma also said the Modi government wanted to provide Muslim youth with modern education, computers, pens and laptops so they could progress and contribute to the country like former President APJ Abdul Kalam. He accused opposition parties of treating Muslims as a vote bank, while claiming that the BJP viewed them as equal citizens.
The event saw Muslim women, girls and young people raise patriotic slogans, including Bharat Mata Ki Jai, Vande Mataram and Hindustan Zindabad.
Around 6,000 Muslim women, among approximately 8,000 participants, attended the event, according to the organisers.
Dinesh Sharma recalled that former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had proposed Kalam for the presidency and claimed that the Congress and Samajwadi Party had opposed his re-election. He said government schemes under Prime Minister Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath implemented without discrimination based on caste or religion.
Participants later took out an approximately one-kilometre Tiranga Yatra, with Dinesh Sharma addressing them as the chief guest.
Sajjada Nashin Syed Aziz Ashraf of Kichhauchha Sharif, Minority Morcha state president Basit Ali, district president Javed Malik, Ismail Farooqui and Mujahid were among those present.
