The Karkardooma Court’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Vidhi Gupta Anand, has ordered the detention of the owner of Vivek Vihar Baby Care Hospital, Dr. Naveen Khichi, and the attending physician during the tragic incident, Dr. Akash, for 14 days of judicial custody. This decision comes in light of the unfortunate event on May 25, where a fire outbreak at the hospital led to the heartbreaking demise of seven newborns and left five others injured.
The magistrate, Vidhi Gupta Anand, extended the judicial custody of Dr. Naveen Khichi and Dr. Akash until June 13. Dr. Akash, meanwhile, has petitioned for bail, scheduled for hearing on June 3. The devastating fire occurred at Baby Care New Born Child Hospital in Vivek Vihar, East Delhi, reportedly operating unlawfully after its license had expired, and without necessary clearance from the fire department. The incident has prompted legal action, with a case registered at Vivek Vihar police station under IPC sections 336, 304 A, 304, and 308.
