Varanasi, Aug 21: On the death anniversary of Shehnai maestro Bharat Ratna Bismillah Khan, officials inaugurated his tomb and organized a tribute meeting. The event drew attention as former BJP MP and spokesperson Syed Zafar Islam attended as a representative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Syed Zafar Islam delivered remarks on behalf of PM Modi, who could not attend due to other commitments. Islam highlighted Khan’s legacy, stating, “Today marks the death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Bismillah Khan Sahab. PM Modi sent us as his representative to honor this occasion. Khan performed for the first time on August 15, 1947, showcasing his patriotism. Even today, the same tune plays during the Prime Minister’s August 15 speeches, reflecting Khan’s immense contribution to the nation.”
Islam emphasized Khan’s global recognition, stating that wherever the Shehnai is mentioned, Bismillah Khan’s name is revered.
The tribute event in Varanasi celebrated Khan’s enduring impact on Indian music and his significant role in the country’s cultural heritage.
