Vande Mataram Is India’s Immortal Anthem, Says Rajnath Singh In Lok Sabha

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday addressed the Lok Sabha during a special discussion marking the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram. He described the song as India’s immortal anthem and a mantra that inspired generations of freedom fighters.

Singh accused the Congress party of pursuing appeasement politics that, in his view, damaged the spirit of the national song and contributed to the Partition of India.

“Vande Mataram is complete in itself, but some have attempted to make it incomplete. Yet it has remained the immortal song of our nation and will continue to do so,” he declared.

He stressed that future generations must understand the mentality of those who undermined the song.

Singh called it an injustice to India’s cultural and national identity.

The Defence Minister recalled that India’s first flag in 1906 featured Vande Mataram at its centre. In the same year, a newspaper named Vande Mataram was launched in Bengal to raise public awareness.

“At that time, Vande Mataram was not just a word; it was a feeling, a source of motivation, and a poem,” Singh said.

He highlighted that the song’s influence extended beyond Bengal, resonating across India from east to west and even beyond the country’s borders.

Symbol of Unity and Resistance

People chanted it as a symbol of unity and resistance.

Rajnath Singh emphasised that Vande Mataram became the pulse of the nation, embodying sacrifice, courage, and the collective spirit of freedom.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leading India to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the song. He added that the government ensures the celebration reflects respect for the song.

Singh emphasised that the anniversary highlights the nation’s recognition of its cultural heritage.

Rajnath Singh said the song inspires the nation’s resolve for self-reliance and progress.

Singh added that it reminds citizens of the sacrifices made during the freedom struggle.

Concluding his address, Singh urged the House and the nation to honour the legacy of Vande Mataram, preserve its spirit, and let it guide India toward a stronger, self-reliant future.
