IndiGo Says ₹827 Crore Refunded; Operations Near Full Recovery

IndiGo on Monday announced that it has refunded Rs 827 crore to passengers affected by flight disruptions, with remaining refunds under process for cancellations up to December 15.

The low-cost airline also delivered more than 4,500 bags and said it aims to complete all remaining deliveries within 36 hours.

The airline operated over 1,800 flights on Monday, up from 1,650 on Sunday, connecting all stations in its network.

IndiGo said it optimised operations, reduced cancellations, and improved on-time performance (OTP) to 91 per cent.

“Cancellations for Monday were executed on Sunday, and customers received advance notifications. We remain committed to assisting over two lakh customers daily across multiple channels,” the airline said.

IndiGo said it expedited internal processes to manage customer queries and ensure full operational recovery.

“We regret this disruption and apologise sincerely to our customers. All operations comply fully with FDTL norms and safety regulations, as they have for the last two decades,” the statement added.

The announcement followed a stern warning from the government over the massive flight disruptions.

Union Civil Aviation Minister K Ram Mohan Naidu told the Rajya Sabha that the government has initiated a thorough inquiry.

“IndiGo was responsible for managing crew and rosters, yet passengers faced significant difficulties. We will take strict action to set an example for all airlines. Any non-compliance will not be tolerated,” he said.

The government’s warning emphasises accountability and compliance across the aviation sector.

Airline Promises Operational Recovery

IndiGo acknowledged the pressure and reassured the public that it has strengthened operational planning to prevent future disruptions.

The airline said it is working intensively to resolve passenger concerns and deliver pending baggage, while maintaining safety and regulatory compliance.

It reiterated its commitment to customer service, claiming that the improvements in OTP and advance notifications demonstrate progress on the path to full recovery.

IndiGo’s measures aim to restore confidence among travellers and address government concerns, signalling that the airline is actively managing both operational recovery and regulatory expectations.
