Unity Above Identity: Hyderabad Seminar Sends Powerful National Message

A high-profile seminar in Hyderabad delivered a sharp and timely message on national unity, cultural harmony, and civic responsibility, bringing together influential voices from academia and civil society. The event, themed ‘One Nation, One Homeland – India,’ placed Professor (Dr) Shahid Akhter, officiating Chairman of the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions (NCMEI), at the centre of a conversation that pushed unity beyond rhetoric and into action.

Held at Osmania University, the gathering drew academicians, social leaders, and students under the banner ‘India First, India Best.’ Speakers framed unity not as an abstract slogan but as a strategic necessity for India’s social stability, democratic strength, and global standing.

Professor Akhter set the tone with a forceful appeal to rise above prejudice, hate, and fragmentation. He asserted that India’s progress depends on respecting diversity while anchoring identity in a shared national consciousness. He described the idea of ‘One Nation, One Homeland’ as a moral call to transcend narrow divisions and protect the country’s pluralistic soul.

“Different cultures and languages, but one heart,” he said, stressing that unity in diversity remains India’s greatest strength. He placed responsibility squarely on citizens, particularly the youth, to safeguard peace, integrity, and democratic values in an era of polarisation.

Education Morality Nation First

Senior RSS leader and Muslim Rashtriya Manch patron Dr Indresh Kumar reinforced the message with a clear three-point framework. He declared national identity as paramount, stating that being Indian must come before religious, linguistic, or regional affiliations.

He emphasised the importance of mother tongues as cultural anchors and urged society to preserve India’s linguistic heritage. Drawing on ethical philosophy, he called on citizens to consciously choose righteousness over divisive forces, describing moral clarity as the backbone of nation-building.

Dr Kumar also issued a direct call for action, urging citizens to actively eliminate social evils and warning against the growing drug menace. He asked Hyderabad’s youth to take leadership roles in social reform and community resilience.

Professor Akhter’s credibility at the seminar drew strength from his work beyond the podium. As NCMEI chairman, he has consistently pushed for minority empowerment through education. In a recent review meeting in Pune, he reaffirmed minority rights under Article 30(1) and directed authorities to fill all vacant teaching posts in minority institutions within three months.

He continues to champion the integration of National Education Policy 2020 reforms, including multilingual education and skill development, as tools for inclusive national growth.

The seminar concluded with a unified resolve to translate ideas into action. By blending moral responsibility, educational reform, and national identity, the Hyderabad dialogue offered a compelling blueprint for a confident, cohesive, and forward-looking India.
