Tragedy Strikes As Two UPSC Aspirants Die In Waterlogged Coaching Centre

Two female UPSC aspirants tragically lost their lives and several others were trapped for hours after water inundated the basement of a coaching centre in Rajendra Nagar on Saturday evening, officials confirmed.

The Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received an emergency call about severe waterlogging at Rau’s IAS Study Centre around 7 p.m. In response, five fire engines were dispatched to the scene to facilitate rescue efforts. Additionally, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were deployed to assist with the operation.

As of now, authorities have recovered the bodies of two female students, with rescue operations continuing. The incident follows a recent similar tragedy in Patel Nagar, where a UPSC aspirant was electrocuted while attempting to navigate a waterlogged street.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Delhi) M. Harsha Vardhan reported that the area experienced significant waterlogging due to heavy rainfall on Saturday evening. “Rescue operations are ongoing, and we are encountering challenges with water drainage. Our teams are working diligently to address the situation. We have recovered one female student’s body so far,” Vardhan stated.

Delhi Public Works Department Minister Atishi addressed the situation on social media platform X, noting: “There is news of an accident due to heavy rain in Delhi this evening. The basement of a coaching institute in Rajendra Nagar has been flooded. The Delhi Fire Department and NDRF are on site, and the Delhi Mayor and local MLA are also present. I am receiving updates on the situation every minute.”

Atishi also announced that a magisterial inquiry has been ordered to investigate the circumstances leading to the incident. “Those responsible for this tragedy will be held accountable,” she asserted.
