Teachers’ Day 2026: President Murmu Confers National Teachers Awards On 48 Educators

President Droupadi Murmu conferred the National Teachers Awards on 48 educators at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Saturday. The ceremony marked Teachers’ Day, observed on September 5.

The event featured documentaries on every awardee.

The films showcased their achievements and contributions to school education. They highlighted their influence on students’ lives.

President Murmu thanked the teaching community. She recalled the affection she received from her teachers and credited them for her success.

“I feel happy to be here among the teachers. I still recall my teachers; it was due to their love and affection that I succeeded in life and am standing here today,” she stated.

President Murmu remembered the students she taught at the Sri Aurobindo Integral Education Centre in Rairangpur, Odisha. She paid tribute to Savitribai Phule for her contribution to girls’ education.

The Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education organises the annual ceremony. It honours outstanding teachers with National Teachers Awards.

For the 2026 awards, teachers submitted online self-nominations through the Ministry of Education portal between June 15 and July 20.

Officials selected 48 teachers through a three-stage process at district, state and national levels.

The awardees represent 27 States, seven Union Territories and six Central Government organisations. They include 26 male and 22 female teachers.

The awards recognise sustained efforts that improve learning environments and educational outcomes. They encourage innovation, dedication and excellence in teaching.

The ceremony celebrates educators whose commitment enriches students’ lives and strengthens school education.
