Tamil Nadu To Sends 54 Teachers To France Under Kanavu Asiriyar Scheme

The Tamil Nadu school education department will sponsor an all-expenses-paid trip for 54 teachers to France as part of the Kanavu Asiriyar (Dream Teacher) scheme. The selected teachers, comprising 32 primary school educators and 22 from high and higher secondary schools, will depart on Tuesday and return on October 28.

This initiative aims to recognize and reward teachers who are dedicated to transforming education for their students. The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) organized the ‘Kanavu Asiriyar Contest 2023’ to enhance the skills of government and aided school teachers.

The contest involved a comprehensive assessment of teachers’ subject knowledge and pedagogic skills. Participants underwent a series of evaluations, including multiple-choice tests and district-level assessments that covered various teaching strategies, subject matter expertise, and classroom management.

A total of 16,247 teachers applied to participate in the tests. Of those, 10,305 teachers completed the initial assessment, and 2,008 advanced to the next stage. Ultimately, 992 teachers were shortlisted, and 54 were selected after successfully demonstrating their classroom teaching abilities.

The Kanavu Asiriyar programme not only acknowledges the hard work of these educators but also encourages ongoing professional development in the teaching community.
