On Monday, Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha visited the SKIMS Hospital in Srinagar to ensure that the injured victims of the recent Gagangir terrorist attack received the best possible medical care.
Taking to X, LG Sinha posted, “Visited the Hospital in Srinagar to inquire about the health of construction workers, who were injured in Gagangir terror attack. I pray for their speedy recovery. Directed the officials to provide all the support to the affected families.”
This visit came in the wake of the tragic attack that claimed the lives of seven individuals, including six non-locals and a local doctor.
Addressing attendees at the Police Commemoration Day event, LG Sinha urged the Union Territory police to swiftly bring the assailants to justice.
He emphasized the necessity for a resolute response to ongoing threats from across the border, stating, “The terror threat emanating from the neighbouring country continues to persist. Our police, Army and the CAPF should ensure that there is no laxity while rooting out terror and terrorism from J&K soil.”
LG Sinha further noted, “Efforts are on to destabilize peace in J&K. We need to be vigilant about the elements trying to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere in J&K.”
Additionally, he praised the J&K police for their dedication and professionalism, recognizing their vital role in maintaining law and order, combating militancy, and assisting the public during adverse weather conditions.
“The police force in J&K is a great example of valour, zeal and professionalism. Be it maintaining law and order, fighting militancy, dealing with crime or helping people during heavy rainfall or snowfall. J&K Police is on the forefront always. People should acknowledge the police’s role and extend full cooperation to the force,” the Lieutenant Governor added.
Reiterating the administration’s commitment to justice, LG Sinha however stated, “Begunah ko chedo mat, aur gunahgar ko chodo mat (Don’t touch the innocent and don’t spare the criminals),” affirming that these principles have been strictly upheld over the past four years.
LG Sinha also took a moment to honor the fallen heroes from the police force, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Army, pledging that the administration would address the needs of the families of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
“The J&K administration will fulfill all demands of the next of kin of our bravehearts, who laid down their lives in the line of duty while protecting J&K and the nation,” he emphasized.
“We are ensuring that next of kin of slain policemen get all benefits of various schemes. The Lok Sabha polls and the recently-concluded Assembly elections proved that people want to strengthen democracy in J&K. Over the past four years, the youth of J&K are marching ahead with development and peace. The youth are chasing their dreams in getting government jobs and also becoming entrepreneurs,” LG Sinha further added.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, and various Cabinet Ministers and MLAs attended the ceremony.
In a related development, a team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrived at the site of the attack on Monday morning to initiate a thorough investigation. The Pakistan-based terrorist group, The Resistance Front (TRF), has claimed responsibility for the incident, prompting intensified security measures across the region.
