The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition seeking clarification on the meaning of words in the preamble of the Constitution. The court stated that it is not their role to interpret these terms and advised the petitioner to understand them independently.
The bench, consisting of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar, ruled that interpreting the preamble’s language falls outside their jurisdiction. The petition was filed by Shivam Mishra, who argued that certain words, such as “brotherhood,” are ambiguous and challenging to comprehend in their present context.
Shivam Mishra contended that the lack of clarity in terms like “brotherhood” has caused him distress. He argued that these terms’ definitions are unclear and that the court should provide relief.
The court remarked that Mishra’s arguments lacked clarity and stated it is not the court’s role to interpret the meanings of constitutional terms. The petitioner’s request for relief was denied based on these grounds.
