Supreme Court Issues Notice To Bihar Government Over Petition By Expelled RJD Leader

The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Bihar government and the Assembly Office regarding a petition filed by Rambali Singh, an expelled RJD leader. The court has requested a response from the concerned parties and will next hear the case on October 25.

Singh has challenged the Patna High Court’s decision, which followed his expulsion from the Bihar Legislative Council. The case is being reviewed by a division bench consisting of Justice Suryakant and Justice Ujjwal Bhuiyan.

Rambali Singh faced accusations of anti-party activities and disciplinary violations, leading to his expulsion by then-Chairman Devesh Chandra Thakur on February 6. Singh had previously appealed this decision in the High Court.

The controversy began when Singh criticized Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar during a public event, alleging that Kumar had exploited the extremely backward vote bank for political gain. Singh claimed that Kumar had negatively affected the Teli caste, which, despite being a significant tax contributor in Bihar, had been unfairly classified as extremely backward.

On November 11, 2023, RJD Deputy Chief Whip Sunil Kumar Singh sent a letter to the Speaker requesting the cancellation of Rambali Singh’s membership. Sunil Kumar Singh alleged that Rambali Singh had made false accusations against the leader of the RJD Legislative Party.

Singh’s remarks included criticism of past leaders like Karpoori Thakur, whom he claimed had neglected the extremely backward communities, resulting in their current state of poverty.
