At the United Nations, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi firmly reaffirmed India’s position on Jammu & Kashmir, stating that it will remain an integral part of India. His remarks came during a discussion on UN Peacekeeping operations when the Pakistani representative raised the issue of the disputed region.
Trivedi rejected Pakistan’s attempt to introduce the Kashmir dispute into the conversation. He termed the mention as “unnecessary” and said it aimed to divert the focus of the UN assembly.
Exercising his Right of Reply (ROR), Trivedi made it clear that Jammu & Kashmir’s status as part of India is non-negotiable. He highlighted that the people of Jammu & Kashmir recently participated in democratic elections, choosing a new government.
“Pakistan must desist from such rhetoric and falsehood,” Trivedi asserted, adding that it would not change the facts. He further emphasized that these elections demonstrated the region’s successful democratic process and were made possible due to the strong foreign policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.
In a diplomatic move, Trivedi also expressed India’s decision to avoid further engagement with Pakistan’s provocations. “Out of respect for other members of this forum, India will refrain from responding to any further attempts by Pakistan to abuse the UN procedures,” he said.
Trivedi later elaborated on the matter through social media, explaining that the recent democratic exercises in Jammu and Kashmir proved that the region’s political processes were moving forward smoothly. “The August forum of the United Nations cannot be used for misleading rhetoric,” he added.
The turnout in recent elections in Jammu & Kashmir was significant, showing strong participation from the local population. Trivedi credited the success of these elections to India’s firm and assertive foreign policies. The active engagement of people in the democratic process is a testament to the region’s ongoing integration with India.
