Renowned author and philanthropist Sudha Murty has been nominated to the Rajya Sabha by President Droupadi Murmu, as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. Expressing his congratulations to Sudha Murty, PM Modi commended her extensive and inspiring contributions to various fields.
In a tweet on X (formerly Twitter), Prime Minister Modi stated, “I am delighted that the President of India has nominated @SmtSudhaMurtyJi to the Rajya Sabha. Sudha Ji’s contributions to diverse fields, including social work, philanthropy, and education, have been immense and inspiring.” He went on to highlight her presence in the Rajya Sabha as a powerful representation of ‘Nari Shakti,’ symbolizing the strength and potential of women in shaping the nation’s destiny. PM Modi concluded his message by wishing Sudha Murty a fruitful tenure in Parliament.

Sudha Murty, a distinguished Indian educator, author, and former chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, is also actively involved in public healthcare initiatives with the Gates Foundation. Notably, she established the Murty Classical Library of India at Harvard University.
Recognizing her remarkable contributions, Sudha Murty was honored with the Padma Shri in 2006 and the Padma Bhushan in 2003, both prestigious civilian awards in India. She is married to Infosys co-founder Narayan Murty, and the couple has two children, Akshata and Rohan. Akshata Murty is married to UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
Sudha Murty is celebrated for her literary achievements, particularly her novel ‘Dollar Bahu,’ originally written in Kannada and later translated into English. The novel was adapted into a dramatic series by Zee TV in 2001. Additionally, her story ‘Runa’ was adapted into a Marathi film, showcasing the diverse facets of her creative prowess.
