Former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Tuesday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s role in strengthening India-UK relations, saying the partnership was going from ‘strength to strength’ under his leadership.
Sunak made the remarks after meeting PM Modi in New Delhi, where he congratulated the Indian leader on completing 25 years in public service. He described expanding cooperation between the two countries in trade, technology and artificial intelligence (AI) as ‘vital in a less predictable world’.
Taking to X, Sunak posted, “Prime Minister @narendramodi great to see you in New Delhi today. Congratulations on 25 years in public service, a remarkable achievement. It was a pleasure to work with you when I was Prime Minister. Your commitment, your work ethic, your energy is an example to us all.”
“The UK India relationship is going from strength to strength under your leadership. Our two countries cooperating more on trade, tech and AI is vital in a less predictable world. I know that Britain and India will continue to grow ever closer in the years ahead,” the post added.

Born in Southampton to Indian parents with roots in Punjab, Sunak served as the UK Prime Minister from 2022 to 2024, becoming the first person of Indian origin to hold the office.
In July, PM Modi spoke with UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham by phone. They agreed to expand cooperation across key sectors.
Prime Minister Modi congratulated Burnham on assuming office and wished him a successful tenure. He said both countries would leverage the India-UK trade agreement to boost trade, investment and shared prosperity.
