SRCC Centenary: PM Modi To Attend 100th Anniversary Celebrations In Delhi

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend the centenary celebrations of Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) in New Delhi, as the University of Delhi institution completes 100 years of its academic journey.

The programme will begin at around 7 PM on the college campus, where the Prime Minister will address the gathering and mark the milestone with students, faculty members and other guests.

SRCC was established in 1926 by industrialist and philanthropist Sir Shri Ram.

The institution has since developed into a prominent centre for higher education, particularly in Commerce, Economics and Management. Its early history dates back to the Commercial College, which became affiliated with the University of Delhi in 1926.

The institution received Degree College status in 1932 and began awarding the BA (Pass) degree with Commerce as a group.

A major shift came in 1951, when the college decided to concentrate on Commerce and Economics. It was subsequently renamed Shri Ram College of Commerce in recognition of its founder.

Over the decades, SRCC has produced graduates who have pursued careers in areas including business, public administration, entrepreneurship, policymaking and academia.

The centenary programme falls on September 5, which is observed as Teachers’ Day in India.

The occasion therefore combines the college’s 100-year milestone with a national day dedicated to recognising teachers and educators.

PM Modi’s visit will mark his return to SRCC after 13 years. He had visited the college in 2013, when he was serving as the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
