Sports Ministry Invites Applications For National Sports Tribunal Member Posts

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has invited applications for two Member positions in the newly established National Sports Tribunal (NST).

The National Sports Governance Act, 2025, created the statutory body.

The move marks a major step in strengthening India’s sports governance framework through a dedicated mechanism for resolving sports-related disputes.

The National Sports Tribunal will function as an independent adjudicatory body and hear matters arising under the provisions of the new legislation.

The Ministry announced that the recruitment drive aims to fill two vacancies for the post of Member in the Tribunal.

The NST will operate from its headquarters in New Delhi, and the selected candidates will serve in the national capital.

Eligible applicants must have a distinguished public profile. They should also possess extensive experience and expertise in sports, public administration, and law.

The government will regulate salaries, allowances, and service conditions under the National Sports Governance (National Sports Tribunal) Rules, 2026. These rules will, however, govern the terms of service for the Tribunal’s Members.

A Search-cum-Selection Committee constituted under the National Sports Governance Act, 2025, will oversee the recruitment process.

The committee will examine applications and evaluate candidates based on their qualifications, professional experience, and suitability for the role.

Authorities will invite shortlisted candidates for personal interaction as part of the assessment process.

The committee will then make its final recommendations after considering academic credentials, professional achievements, domain expertise, and performance during the interaction stage.

The establishment of the National Sports Tribunal represents a significant institutional reform in Indian sports administration.

The specialised body will ensure transparent, efficient, and impartial resolution of disputes. It will also promote accountability and professionalism across the sporting ecosystem.

The initiative also reflects the government’s broader effort to modernise sports governance and create a robust legal framework for athletes, federations, and sporting institutions.
