PM Modi To Launch ₹12,421 Crore NHAI Projects During Surat Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two key stretches of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and lay foundation stones for four National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) projects worth Rs 12,421 crore during his visit to Surat on June 5, coinciding with World Environment Day.

The Gujarat government said these infrastructure initiatives will enhance connectivity across South Gujarat, facilitate freight transportation, and stimulate economic growth in tribal, industrial, and coastal regions.

Prime Minister Modi will dedicate the 36-km Kim-Ena section (Package VI) and the 27.5-km Gandeva–Ena section (Package VII) of the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway.

Built for Rs 7,689 crore, the projects form an integral part of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway corridor.

The stretches feature major and minor bridges, railroad bridges, flyovers, and vehicular underpasses.

Authorities have constructed 70 underpasses and two interchanges to maintain local connectivity.

The eight-lane corridor will strengthen regional transport networks and accelerate passenger and cargo movement. The project also includes seven wayside amenities to improve commuter convenience and safety.

The Prime Minister will also launch four highway projects valued at Rs 4,732 crore.

The projects include the four-laning of the Dhamasiya-Bitada/Movi section under NH-56 Package IV and the Nasarpor-Malotha section under Package VI.

The government will also construct a six-lane vehicular underpass near Reliance on NH-53 and build a vehicular underpass-cum-flyover at Kavas.

The government stated, “By four-laning the Dhamasia-Bitada and Nasarpore-Malotha sections under the upgradation of NH-56, connectivity to the Statue of Unity and the tribal districts of Narmada, Tapi, Valsad, and Chhota Udepur will improve.”

The 107.67-km corridor will cut travel time by up to 40 minutes. It will also raise average travel speeds by nearly 75 per cent.

The corridor will connect farmers, industries, trade corridors, pharmaceutical clusters, seafood hubs, and tribal areas. It will also link one airport, two railway stations, and two ports.

Foundation stones will also be laid for two NH-53 projects worth around Rs 149 crore near Hazira Port. These include a six-lane flyover and a vehicular underpass.

The government stated, “The new 6-lane flyover and underpass will ensure smooth and faster movement of heavy freight traffic for Hazira Port and industrial areas.”

Officials said the projects will support maritime commerce and boost industrial activity. They will also improve road safety and reduce congestion. In addition, the projects are expected to ease traffic pressure in the Hazira industrial belt.
