Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to begin a two-day trip to Sikkim on Monday, where he will take part in events commemorating 50 years since the state’s formation and introduce a wide range of development initiatives worth more than Rs 4,000 crore.
The Prime Minister is expected to reach Gangtok in the afternoon. His itinerary includes a visit to the Orchid Experience Centre, designed to present the region’s biodiversity and unique plant life on a global platform.
On Tuesday morning, PM Modi will attend the final event of the statehood celebrations at Paljor Stadium.
During the programme, multiple projects across sectors will be unveiled, including transport, health services, education, power supply, tourism, and environmental management. He will also address attendees at the venue.
In the health sector, plans include the construction of a 100-bed Ayurveda facility in Yangang and the opening of a specialised Sowa Rigpa hospital at NIT Deorali.
Several educational institutions will also be inaugurated, such as new campuses, medical colleges, and professional institutes across different districts.
Efforts to improve schooling infrastructure will include upgraded facilities in dozens of institutions, alongside the launch of residential schools and a degree college.
A monastery-linked academic facility is also part of the programme.
To strengthen connectivity, foundation stones will be laid for new bridges over the Teesta River. An upgraded roadway linking key regions will also be opened.
Power distribution improvements in Gangtok are also scheduled for inauguration.
Urban development projects feature new administrative buildings, housing schemes for economically weaker sections, and accommodation for police personnel.
A public hall at MG Marg is also among the planned developments.
Environmental measures include work on sewerage systems and river conservation efforts.
In tourism, the Prime Minister will unveil upgraded public spaces, pilgrimage-related infrastructure, and facilities linked to the Kailash Mansarovar route.
The visit will also see the launch of an agro-processing plant aimed at supporting farmers. It will also include new indoor sports infrastructure in the Pakyong district.
The trip is expected to highlight both the state’s developmental progress and its future growth plans across multiple sectors.
