Senior IPS Officer B Srinivasan Appointed New NSG Chief

Senior IPS officer B Srinivasan has been appointed as the Director General (DG) of the National Security Guard (NSG), India’s counter-terrorism force. The Personnel Ministry issued the order on Tuesday.

Srinivasan, a 1992 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer from the Bihar cadre, will assume the role of NSG DG. According to the order, his appointment is effective from the date of joining and will last until August 31, 2027. August 31, 2027 is the date of his superannuation.

Currently, B Srinivasan serves as the Director of the Bihar Police Academy in Rajgir. The position of NSG DG was previously vacant after Nalin Prabhat served Chief of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Nalin Prabhat, who was named NSG Chief in April this year, was initially set to serve until August 31, 2028. However, his tenure was cut short by the Centre on August 15, as he was appointed Chief of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Prabhat, now serving as Special Director General of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, will take over from the current Jammu and Kashmir Police Chief, R.R. Swain, on September 30.

In the interim, Anish Dayal Singh, the Director General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), has been holding the additional charge of the NSG. The NSG, often referred to as the “black cats,” was established in 1984 as a federal contingency force.

Srinivasan’s appointment marks a significant shift in the leadership of the NSG, reflecting ongoing changes within India’s security apparatus.
