Security Forces Launch Massive Crackdown On Terror Ahead Of PM Modi’s Srinagar Visit

Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Srinagar on June 20, the counter-terrorism grid has intensified its crackdown on terror-related activities in Jammu and Kashmir.

On Wednesday afternoon, a joint team of the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police neutralized two terrorists in North Kashmir’s Baramulla. The operation commenced when security forces initiated a cordon and search operation in the Hadipora area of Sopore. The terrorists responded with gunfire, leading to a gunfight.

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to arrive in Srinagar on June 20 at around 6 PM to participate in the ‘Empowering Youth, Transforming J&K’ event at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC). During his visit, he will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several development projects in Jammu and Kashmir. On June 21 at 6:30 AM, he will attend the 10th International Day of Yoga event at SKICC, where approximately 4,000 people are expected to gather on the banks of Dal Lake.

In a significant development, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have made the first arrest related to the Reasi terror attack that occurred on June 9. The attack, targeting a bus carrying pilgrims from the Shiv Khori cave shrine to Katra in Reasi district, resulted in nine fatalities and 33 injuries. The police have apprehended Hakim Din, a resident of Rajouri, who is suspected of providing logistical support to the terrorists involved in the attack.

Additionally, in Doda district, the police have arrested Mohammad Rafi, who fled on Tuesday with an AK-47 rifle belonging to a special police officer (SPO). The incident occurred when SPO Safdar Hussain, who had taken a lift in Rafi’s vehicle, stepped out near a flyover in Doda to purchase a water bottle, leaving his rifle in the car. Rafi subsequently absconded with the weapon, but the vehicle was later found abandoned in the Jagota area of Bhalla.
