SC Seeks Responses In Mathura Krishna Janmabhoomi-Idgah Dispute, Grants Two Weeks To All Parties

The Supreme Court has given all parties two weeks to file written replies in the Mathura Krishna Janmabhoomi Shahi Idgah dispute. Justices Sanjeev Khanna and Sanjay Kumar are hearing the case. They want clarity on whether appeals against the Allahabad High Court’s decision can only be made in the High Court. The Muslim side has challenged the High Court’s move to allow petitions by the Hindu side for a hearing.

Challenge Against Transfer of Cases to High Court

The Muslim side has also contested the Allahabad High Court’s decision to transfer 18 cases from the lower court. On August 1, the High Court deemed these cases fit for a joint hearing. In an earlier hearing, the Supreme Court rejected the Muslim side’s request to stop this transfer.

Lawyer Vishnu Shankar Jain, representing the Hindu side, filed a second caveat in the Supreme Court. National Hindu Army President Vishnu Gupta had previously filed a similar caveat. Both requests urge the court to avoid any order without hearing both sides if new petitions challenge the High Court’s decision.

Stay on Survey of Shahi Idgah Complex

The Supreme Court has also paused the Allahabad High Court’s order for a survey of the Shahi Idgah Mosque Complex, scheduled for December 14. The court has also halted the appointment of a commissioner. Hindu parties argue that the mosque complex shows signs of its historical roots as a temple. The land dispute near the Krishna Janmabhoomi temple has persisted for years, with calls for a new, grand temple there, similar to the one in Ayodhya.
