Samrat Choudhary took oath as the 24th Chief Minister of Bihar, marking the first time a BJP-led government has assumed direct leadership in the state.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at Lok Bhawan, where Governor Syed Ata Hasnain administered the oath of office and secrecy.
Soon after, senior JD(U) leaders Vijay Kumar Chaudhary and Vijendra Prasad Yadav were sworn in as Deputy Chief Ministers under the alliance arrangement.
Before assuming office, Choudhary visited a Hanuman temple in Rajvanshi Nagar to seek blessings, signalling the beginning of a new political chapter.
The transition follows the resignation of Nitish Kumar, who moved to the Rajya Sabha, paving the way for the BJP’s leadership in the state.
Choudhary began his political journey in 1990 and served as Bihar’s Agriculture Minister in 1999. He won the Parbatta Assembly seat in 2000 and 2010, later becoming Chief Whip of the opposition in the state Assembly.
Since 2018, he has emerged as a prominent BJP leader, rising through the ranks to become State President in 2023.
His political stature grew significantly after Nitish Kumar’s split from the BJP, when he vowed not to remove his traditional ‘Muraittha’ until Kumar stepped down as Chief Minister.
After Nitish Kumar returned to the NDA, Samrat Choudhary served as Deputy CM and handled Home.
Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, a former banker and three-time MLA, built a strong administrative reputation in JD(U).
Vijendra Prasad Yadav, a veteran leader, strengthened infrastructure in the Kosi region.
With Choudhary leading and experienced deputies in place, Bihar enters a new phase of governance.
