Rs 300-Crore BrahMos Missile Unit Set For Inauguration In Lucknow On May 11

Amid rising India-Pakistan tensions, India is boosting its defence capabilities with a new BrahMos missile production unit set to open in Lucknow on May 11.

The plant is part of the Uttar Pradesh Defence Corridor and costs ₹300 crore.

BrahMos Aerospace set up the facility on 80 hectares of free land.

The state government provided the land in December 2021. The unit took just 3.5 years to complete.

This marks a major step towards self-reliance in defence.

Shrihari Pratap Shahi, ACEO of UPEIDA, said the government tracked the project closely.

This helped complete the unit quickly. He added that the Lucknow node will also produce other defence equipment.

The project gives Lucknow a new role in national defence.

Officials called the plant a strategic move. It boosts India’s missile strength and positions Uttar Pradesh as a defence hub.

The state expects the unit to support the aerospace industry. It will introduce modern manufacturing technologies.

The project will directly employ around 500 engineers and technicians.

Thousands more will get indirect jobs, including skilled and general workers.

BrahMos Aerospace is a joint venture between DRDO and Russia’s NPOM.

India owns 50.5% of the company. Russia holds the remaining 49.5%.

The name ‘BrahMos’ comes from the Brahmaputra and Moskva rivers, symbolising strength and peace.

The BrahMos missile unit is the first high-tech defence plant of its kind in the state.

The government sees it as a symbol of growing defence capability and industrial progress.
