Rescue Operations Intensified In Flood-Hit Vijayawada

Rescue and relief efforts intensified in flood hit Vijayawada, where several residential areas remain submerged.

Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and various state government departments are using boats to evacuate people from flooded areas to relief camps.

On Saturday, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu contacted the Union Home Minister and Home Secretary, resulting in additional NDRF teams with speed boats rushing to Vijayawada for rescue operations.

CM Naidu, who stayed overnight in Vijayawada to personally oversee relief efforts, visited Ajit Singh Nagar, one of the worst-affected areas. He checked whether needy people received food and water.

Early Monday morning, after a meeting at the district collector’s office, Naidu visited a flooded area by boat. This marked his third visit since Sunday afternoon, including an inspection around midnight.

The Chief Minister instructed ministers Narayana, Kondapalli, and Kollu to visit other flood-affected areas. He also directed officials to use function halls, hotels, and other venues as temporary relief camps for displaced residents.

Authorities, in partnership with the Akshaya Patra Foundation, have arranged to cook and deliver food to one lakh people.

Since Saturday, heavy rain and unprecedented flooding in Vijayawada, Guntur, and other towns have claimed 12 lives and caused widespread damage.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to CM Naidu on Sunday, offering full support in addressing the flood crisis.

Meanwhile, a second flood warning remains in effect at Prakasam Barrage on the Krishna River, where 11.36 lakh cusecs of water are being released through 70 gates. The ongoing water release has raised fears of flooding in downstream villages.
