Renowned Jurist Fali S Nariman, Champion of Civil Liberties, Passes Away at 95

Eminent jurist and Senior Advocate Fali S Nariman passed away at the age of 95, leaving behind a legacy of legal brilliance and unwavering commitment to justice. Throughout his illustrious career, Nariman made significant contributions to constitutional law, arguing numerous landmark cases that shaped India’s legal landscape.

Nariman’s legal acumen was demonstrated in his representation of pivotal cases, including the historic NJAC verdict, the SC AoR Association case leading to the collegium system, and the TMA Pai case, which delved into the scope of minority rights under Article 30 of the Constitution. Notably, his resignation as Additional Solicitor General of India in June 1975, in protest against the emergency declared by the Indira Gandhi government, underscored his unwavering commitment to civil liberties.
