DPIIT Secretary’s Premises Searched By CBI For Accumulation Of Disproportionate Assets

Days after filing a formal complaint against former Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) Secretary, Ramesh Abhishek for purportedly accumulating assets out of proportion to his known sources of income, the CBI searched his residence on Tuesday. His daughter has also been arrested by the CBI, which is also looking into her finances.

In 2019, the IAS officer from 1982 batch retired from DPIIT, which was formerly known as the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP). On February 15, the FIR was filed in response to Lokpal, the anti-corruption ombudsman’s suggestion.

“Hon’ble Lokpal of India vide order dated December 20, 2003 in complaint made before it, has directed Delhi Special Police Establishment (CBI) to conduct investigation into doubtful transactions entered into by  Ramesh Abhishek and his daughter Vaneesa Agrawal by way of receiving big amounts as professional fee or consulting fee from various entities/organisations with whom Ramesh Abhishek had official dealings while he was secretary DPIIT or Chairman Forward Market Commission…” the FIR said.

“…Therefore, in compliance of the directions of Hon’ble Lokpal of India, a Regular Case is registered against Ramesh Abhishek, Vannesa and unknown others,” the FIR said.
