Rejected Punjab Republic Day Tableau by Centre to Be Showcased Across State, Confirms CM Mann

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced that Punjab’s Republic Day tableau, rejected by the Centre, will be showcased across the state post-January 26, highlighting the contributions of freedom fighters such as Bhagat Singh, Udham Singh, and Lala Lajpat Rai.

Mann had previously criticized the BJP-led central government for not including Punjab’s tableau in the Republic Day parade, citing discrimination against the state. The Centre refuted these allegations.

Addressing a gathering after distributing appointment letters to 520 clerks-cum-data entry operators at the Punjab State Cooperative Bank, Mann reiterated that the Centre’s rejection of the tableau was an insult to revered martyrs like Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Lala Lajpat Rai, Udham Singh, and others.

“It (the tableau) will be exhibited across Punjab after January 26,” Mann affirmed. He accused the Union government of undermining the sacrifices of these heroes by omitting the state’s tableau from the parade, terming it an intolerable insult to these patriots and national leaders. Mann emphasized that these leaders don’t require certification of nationalism from the BJP-led Union government.

About Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar’s remarks about the state tableau, Mann criticized “such leaders,” blaming them for hindering the state’s progress. Jakhar had accused Mann of politicizing the issue and claimed that the AAP government insisted on including Mann’s and Arvind Kejriwal’s photos, leading to rejection.

Mann defended his stance, suggesting envy from traditional parties due to his common family background and dedicated efforts towards public welfare. He criticized rival party leaders for believing in a divine right to rule the state, highlighting their inability to accept a common man effectively governing Punjab.

He noted a shift from the traditional way of governing where leaders ruled from palaces to his approach of always being among the people. Mann also highlighted the historic purchase of the GVK power plant in Goindwal, marking a reversal of the trend where governments previously sold state assets at low prices.
