Rashtrapati Bhavan has transformed one of its historic corridors into the Param Vir Dirgha, a gallery dedicated to India’s 21 Param Vir Chakra awardees.
Previously adorned with portraits of British Aides-de-Camp (ADCs), the corridor now pays tribute to extraordinary acts of courage and supreme sacrifice in service of the nation.
This transformation reflects India’s ongoing effort to reclaim and celebrate its own history, turning spaces once linked to colonial administration into sites of national pride.
President Droupadi Murmu inaugurated the gallery on Vijay Diwas, 16 December 2025, in a ceremony that highlighted the valour and resilience of India’s armed forces.
The event witnessed more than 50 rounds of applause during the President’s address, signalling the nation’s deep respect for the soldiers whose heroism the gallery immortalises.
The inauguration coincided with Vijay Diwas, commemorating India’s victory in the 1971 war and the sacrifices that secured the nation’s honour and security.
The gallery stands as a vivid reminder of the shift from colonial legacies to a celebration of India’s own heroes. It immortalises the courage, dedication, and indomitable spirit of soldiers who have gone above and beyond the call of duty, inspiring generations to emulate their example.
Visitors can explore detailed accounts of individual awardees, the historical context surrounding their acts of valour, and the military campaigns that tested their bravery.
Beyond honouring individual soldiers, the Param Vir Dirgha gallery offers a unique educational experience. It engages visitors with India’s military history while emphasising the principles of selflessness, resilience, and patriotism.
Through carefully curated exhibits, archival photographs, and interactive displays, the gallery ensures that the stories of these extraordinary heroes remain accessible and inspiring for citizens of all ages.
With this initiative, Rashtrapati Bhavan not only preserves the nation’s history but also champions the enduring spirit of valour that continues to define India’s armed forces.
The gallery is now a place where history, memory, and pride converge, reminding every visitor that courage is timeless and sacrifice everlasting.
