Raksha Bandhan: Amit Shah Meets Girls With Type 1 Diabetes In Gandhinagar

Union Home Minister Amit Shah observed Raksha Bandhan on Friday by interacting with girls affected by Type 1 juvenile diabetes in Gandhinagar.

The girls met Shah through an initiative operating in his parliamentary constituency that aims to provide free insulin to children up to 18 years of age who have been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

During the gathering, Shah extended his Raksha Bandhan greetings and expressed his wishes for the girls’ health, wellbeing and future.

Type 1 diabetes requires patients to take insulin regularly throughout their lives.

For families with limited financial resources, the continuing expense of insulin and other medical care can become a significant challenge.

The Gandhinagar initiative follows guidelines issued on April 30 under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) 2.0 for addressing Diabetes Mellitus among children.

Under the programme, Gandhinagar has developed an integrated mechanism covering screening, diagnosis, insulin supply, treatment, monitoring and follow-up.

Addressing the Raksha Bandhan programme, Shah said the initiative would help ensure that children from poor and middle-class families could continue receiving essential insulin without financial constraints. He further described the programme as a significant healthcare measure introduced under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership.

Shah said the initiative represented the principles of ‘service, sensitivity and security’ and reflected the government’s focus on people-centred welfare. He further linked the initiative to Raksha Bandhan, saying that providing free insulin to girls symbolised a wider commitment to protecting their health and wellbeing.

Shah said the authorities had implemented the Gandhinagar system under his supervision to ensure that eligible children could receive the benefits. He further highlighted the Centre’s efforts to expand access to healthcare, stating that various initiatives under the Modi government had made medical services more accessible to ordinary citizens.
