Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terrorist attack that claimed the lives of 26 civilians most of them tourists Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday reaffirmed the government’s resolve to respond decisively to any threat against the nation.
Addressing the Sanskriti Jagran Mahotsav in New Delhi, Singh said, “It is my duty to give a fitting reply to those who dare to hurt our country.”
He also underscored the unwavering commitment of India’s armed forces, stating that they have always ensured the nation’s physical security.
“As Defence Minister, I stand with our soldiers to secure our borders and uphold our sovereignty,” he declared.
Rajnath Singh praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, assuring the public that under his guidance, the government would meet the expectations of every Indian.

“You all know our Prime Minister very well—his determination and working style are unmatched,” he said.
Singh also highlighted India’s broader strength, adding, “While our soldiers fight on the battlefield, our saints protect the moral and spiritual fabric of the nation. India’s strength lies not only in its armed forces but in its rich culture and spirituality.”
Earlier this week, PM Modi chaired a high-level security review meeting with the Chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, as well as Defence Minister Singh and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
During the briefing, the Prime Minister gave India’s military leadership full operational freedom.
The message was unambiguous: the timing, method, and targets of any response would be decided by the armed forces themselves.
The removal of political constraints points to the possibility of a strong and carefully measured countermeasure in the near future.
In a parallel development, India suspended all types of mail and parcel exchanges with Pakistan via both air and surface routes on Saturday—an administrative move reflecting heightened diplomatic and security tensions.
In the immediate aftermath of the April 22 attack in the Baisaran Valley, Rajnath Singh pledged to bring every perpetrator and conspirator to justice.
“We will not only act against those who carried out this attack, but also those behind the scenes who conspired to commit such heinous acts on Indian soil,” he had stated, reaffirming India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism.
As the country mourns the loss of innocent lives, the government has sent a clear signal—India will act decisively and unflinchingly against those who threaten its peace and integrity.
