The by-elections on Khinvsar, Chaurasi, Jhunjhunu, Deoli-Uniara, Dausa, Salumber, and Ramgarh were held following the election of five MLAs to Parliament and the deaths of two others. Out of these seven assembly seats, Congress held four, while BJP, BAP, and RLP each had one seat. In the results, BJP emerged victorious in five seats, with a massive margin. Congress secured only Dausa with a narrow victory of 2,300 votes. Chaurasi remained with the BAP party.
While Congress leaders like Ashok Gehlot, Sachin Pilot, and others campaigned actively, BJP’s election centered on Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma. He held 14 meetings and met with 44 social organizations. He deployed his key ministers across all seven seats, resulting in BJP’s rise from one to five seats, while Congress fell from four to one. Congress lost deposits in four seats. The election results reflected strong support for Narendra Modi and Bhajanlal Sharma from the people of Rajasthan.
This is the first time by-elections were held for seven seats in Rajasthan, and BJP performed exceptionally well. The results showcased Bhajanlal Sharma’s popularity across different communities. Jhunjhunu and Khinvsar are Jat dominated, while Dausa and Deoli-Uniara are Meena Gurjar areas. Salumber and Chaurasi are tribal strongholds. In the 2018-2023 period, Congress won all but Rajsamand. BJP’s success is attributed to Bhajanlal Sharma’s governance, including tackling paper leaks, cyber crimes, MoUs for projects, and the recruitment announcement. Sharma’s leadership and his ability to connect with people and the organization led BJP to victory.
In Deoli-Uniyara, BJP broke its losing streak. In the 2023 elections, BJP lost by 19,175 votes, but Bhajanlal Sharma turned the tide. He made Rajendra Gurjar the candidate and involved Vijay Bainsla in the campaign. Sharma held two meetings in Meena Gurjar areas and used the announcement of the ERPC project to win support. Ministers Kanhaiya Lal Chaudhary and Hiralal Nagar also camped here. BJP won by a record 41,121 votes, securing over 1 lakh votes.
Bhajanlal Sharma’s strategy crushed the Congress’ hold on Jhunjhunu. Former Congress leaders, including Shishram Ola and his family, had dominated here. But BJP fielded Rajendra Bhambhu, a simple candidate, and united the party. Sharma’s ministers Avinash Gehlot and Sumit Godara campaigned intensely. BJP defeated Congress by a huge margin of 43,000 votes, breaking the Ola family’s stronghold.
Hanuman Beniwal, who held Khinvsar since 2008, had grown arrogant. BJP made Revat Ram Danga their candidate, while Sharma sent ministers Suresh Rawat and Jhabar Kharra to oversee the campaign. Sharma brought Rajput leader Durga Singh into the fold to unite the vote bank. BJP won Khinvsar by 13,901 votes, with Congress losing its deposit.
Zubair Khan, a Congress national leader, once held Ramgarh’s seat. His death led Congress to field his son Aryan Khan as a candidate. BJP’s Sukhwant Singh contested here. Sharma held two rallies, uniting Hindu votes by highlighting issues like cow smuggling and incidents of love jihad. His speeches on Hindutva won the seat by 14,000 votes.
Bhajanlal Sharma’s strategic campaigning led BJP to a stunning victory. His leadership unified different communities and castes, giving BJP a decisive edge in Rajasthan’s by-elections.
