The INDIA bloc parties to gather at the Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s Residence on 7 Aug, making the first get-together post the Lok Sabha election 2024.
Rahul Gandhi will host a dinner party, and they plan to outline a joint strategy on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
In view of the Vice Presidential election likely to take place on 9 September, the INDIA bloc parties will also discuss fielding a joint candidate.
Leaders will hold a protest march to the Election Commission’s office in New Delhi the day after the dinner.
The INDIA Alliance plans to exhibit against the Election Commission’s ongoing SIR in Bihar, which could allow a manipulation of the electoral roll, they claim.
The Congress is battling criticism from several leaders of the INDIA bloc for not fulfilling its duty to keep the alliance intact.
The last meeting of their top leadership was held at Mallikaarjun Kharge’s residence on 5 June 2024, a day after the Lok Sabha polls were announced.
SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, along with RJD leader Tejaswi Yadav, is to attend the party, while TMC Abhishek Banerjee is likely to join them.
If his health permits, MK Stalin may attend the meeting despite being unwell.
Apart from them, NCP-SP, Shiv Sena (UBT), JMM, and other bloc leaders are likely to attend the meeting.
Although the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has earlier announced it is no longer a part of the INDIA bloc, the TMC, which has a precarious relation with Congress, would attend the meeting.
This meeting, disguised as a dinner party, could regroup the alliance parties and play a crucial role in forming a strategy for the upcoming Bihar polls.
