President Murmu Calls For Spiritual Strength To Counter Global Unrest

President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday called for greater attention to inner wellbeing as the world faces stress, violence, intolerance and social divisions.

Addressing a Brahma Kumaris programme in Vadodara, she said people could promote peace and harmony by developing meditation, introspection, compassion and positive thinking.

The programme marked 90 years of the Brahma Kumaris’ spiritual journey and launched its 2026 national theme, ‘Spiritual Awakening for World Renewal’.

President Murmu also inaugurated the organisation’s Global Spiritual Palace Retreat Centre and virtually launched its Nadiad campaign on awakening inner strength for nation building.

President Murmu said societies should measure progress through more than economic growth and give equal importance to human development.

“Today, there is a need not only for economic development but also for human development,” she said, stressing that education should nurture wisdom and discernment along with intelligence.

She also called for a form of strength that encourages individuals to exercise self-control rather than attempt to control others.

Spirituality Can Encourage Transformation

The President highlighted the Brahma Kumaris’ belief that ‘self-transformation leads to world transformation’ and said the message remained significant amid present-day challenges.

She said spiritual practices could help people build stronger relationships and regain hope and self-respect. President Murmu also acknowledged the organisation’s efforts to take meditation and spiritual knowledge to different countries.

President Murmu pointed to India’s traditions of yoga, meditation, non-violence, compassion and ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ as values with continuing relevance.

“India has given the world great life philosophies such as yoga, meditation, non-violence, compassion and ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’,” she said.

The President called for a nation that combines economic prosperity, scientific capability, social inclusion and spiritual awareness.

She also referred to the Brahma Kumaris’ work at Central Jail, where the organisation has reportedly spent nearly three decades helping inmates develop spiritual understanding and a positive outlook towards life.
