Prayagraj Quadruple Murder Case: Main Accused Arrested Within 12 Hours

Prayagraj Police have claimed a breakthrough in the South Malaka quadruple murder case by apprehending the main accused, Sunny Gupta, within 12 hours of the crime being uncovered.

Investigators recovered an iron pipe linked to the killings, along with stolen ornaments and cash.

The recovered items included over one kilogram of gold jewellery, more than 360 grams of silver ornaments, and ₹1,000 in cash. Police estimated the value of the recovered jewellery at nearly ₹1.5 crore.

According to investigators, Sunny Gupta and Abhishek Vaishya, the son of the deceased couple, allegedly conspired to murder family members.

Police said Abhishek had accumulated substantial debt. His father, Virendra Vaishya, had reportedly disowned him, leading to frequent disputes within the family.

Officials alleged that the duo first targeted Abhishek’s sister, Meenakshi. They allegedly attacked her when she arrived to open the family shop on 31 May. They then allegedly killed Virendra Vaishya and his wife Anita while the couple was asleep.

Police claimed that after stealing jewellery from the house, an argument broke out between the two accused regarding the division of the valuables.

Investigators believe Sunny subsequently turned on Abhishek, fearing he could become a threat.

Police alleged that Sunny killed Abhishek, poured cleaning acid on the body, and attempted to destroy evidence by cleaning bloodstains from the premises.

Authorities discovered the bodies of Virendra Vaishya, his wife Anita, and daughter Meenakshi inside the family home, while Abhishek’s body was found inside the shop. Police said the bodies were several days old when recovered.

Investigators also found a handwritten note stating, ‘Bunty, Babli, and Bahu killed them’.

Police believe the message served to divert the investigation.

Police Commissioner Joginder Kumar said five teams worked on the case, leading to the arrest and recovery of crucial evidence.

The case now includes additional charges of robbery.
