Prayagraj Police have successfully dismantled an interstate cyber fraud gang, arresting two key members who had amassed over ₹1.5 crore through online scams. Operating from Delhi, the gang deceived victims by impersonating officials from high-profile agencies such as the CBI, RBI, and Income Tax Department.
The authorities apprehended the gang’s leader, Sandeep Kumar Sen, and his accomplice, Mohammad Sahil, while they were based in Delhi. The criminals used their illicit earnings to open two bars and restaurants in Paharganj.

During interrogation, Sen and Sahil admitted to their crimes and disclosed the identities of their victims. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) City Deepak Bhukar explained that the gang initially contacted victims, offering high-return investments in cryptocurrency. Once trapped, the victims faced threats and received fake legal documents from the CBI and Income Tax authorities. This led to fraudulent transfers, including one involving ₹68 lakhs from a single victim.
The Prayagraj Police Cyber Cell, working with Delhi Police, tracked down the culprits using information from bank accounts, WhatsApp numbers, and PAN cards. The investigation led to the arrest of Sen and Sahil after uncovering their extensive fraud network.
DCP Bhukar detailed the gang’s method: they used a fake “DEFTER/LEDGER ACCOUNTING app” to show forged cryptocurrency profits and manipulated victims by posing as officials from various agencies. The gang’s tactics included threatening victims with fake legal actions to coerce them into transferring money.
Sandeep Kumar Sen and Mohammad Sahil, both based in Paharganj, Delhi, face charges for their involvement in the scam. The team responsible for the arrests—Inspector Rajeev Tiwari, Lokesh Patel, Atul Trivedi, Ranveer Singh Sengar, Pradeep Yadav, and Anurag Yadav—received a reward of ₹20,000 from DCP Bhukar for their efforts.
