Prashant Kishor Detained During Hunger Strike For BPSC Exam Controversy

Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor, on an indefinite hunger strike at Gandhi Maidan in Patna, was detained by Bihar police on Monday morning. Police “forcibly” took him to AIIMS in an ambulance. Sources said he has been isolated and has refused treatment, continuing his fast unto death.

A video shows Patna police trying to remove Kishor as fellow protesters resisted. Police also cleared other demonstrators from the site.

Protest Against BPSC Exam Irregularities

Kishor started his hunger strike on January 2, supporting students protesting the alleged paper leak of the integrated 70th combined (preliminary) competitive exam conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC). The exam took place on December 13.

The protest site is close to where candidates have been demonstrating around the clock for over two weeks. Criticizing Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Mr. Kishor said, “The candidates are braving the cold and police action while the Chief Minister enjoys himself in Delhi.”

The Jan Suraaj Party plans to file a petition in the Patna High Court on January 7 regarding the alleged exam irregularities.

Vanity Van Controversy

A ‘vanity van’ near the protest site sparked controversy. Rivals accused Mr. Kishor of insincerity due to the vehicle’s luxury.

Responding, Prashant Kishor said the van was necessary to avoid false allegations of breaking his fast if he went home to use the restroom. “Some claimed the van costs ₹4 crore and is rented at ₹25 lakh. If true, give me that rent. How foolish can people be?” he remarked.
