Venezuelan Attorney General Condemns US Caribbean Strikes As Violations Of International Law

Venezuelan Attorney General Tarek William Saab condemned recent US missile strikes in the Caribbean, asserting they clearly violate international law.

He emphasised that the attacks breached the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and fundamental global human rights treaties.

Saab argued that lethal force becomes unlawful when vessels pose no immediate threat to security or regional stability whatsoever. He stressed that Venezuela does not produce cocaine or marijuana, citing United Nations data supporting the government’s position firmly.

According to Saab, less than five per cent of drugs destined for the United States pass through Venezuelan territory each year. He highlighted that prosecutors filed 60,820 drug trafficking charges in eight years, securing 21,370 convictions through coordinated judicial efforts.

Authorities also seized more than 370 tonnes of illegal substances, demonstrating Venezuela’s ongoing commitment to combating transnational crime.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva expressed concern about increased US military deployment near Venezuela’s maritime borders recently.

Lula announced plans to speak directly with US President Donald Trump to reduce tensions and prevent unnecessary regional conflict. He reaffirmed that South America remains a peaceful zone free of nuclear weapons, underscoring the need for diplomatic engagement always.

Lula warned that wars begin easily when miscalculations occur, insisting that timely dialogue can prevent escalation and preserve continental stability. He maintained that Brazil carries substantial responsibility in safeguarding regional peace due to its extensive shared border with Venezuela.

The United States expanded its Caribbean military presence to intensify counter-narcotics operations, citing domestic drug-related fatalities nationwide.

Saab insisted such actions undermine sovereignty and urged renewed international cooperation focused on rights, security, and lawful maritime conduct.
