Highlighting a particular incident, Sharmishtha Mukherjee writes about Rahul’s absence during the AICC’s 130th Foundation Day in 2014, following the Congress’s defeat in the general elections. Pranab Mukherjee, disappointed and questioning Rahul’s commitment, noted in his diary concerns about Rahul’s lack of charisma and political understanding, casting doubt on his ability to revive the party.

The book also mentions Pranab’s disappointment with Rahul’s “frequent disappearing acts” during crucial periods, impacting the party’s image. Despite the criticism, Sharmishtha Mukherjee acknowledges that her father would have appreciated Rahul’s recent efforts, including the Bharat Jodo Yatra, recognizing his dedication and outreach as factors that position him as a credible political figure countering bigotry.
