Highlighting a particular incident, Sharmishtha Mukherjee writes about Rahul’s absence during the AICC’s 130th Foundation Day in 2014, following the Congress’s defeat in the general elections. Pranab Mukherjee, disappointed and questioning Rahul’s commitment, noted in his diary concerns about Rahul’s lack of charisma and political understanding, casting doubt on his ability to revive the party.
