Power Rates For Domestic and Industry Consumer Got Increased In Punjab

Punjab increased the power tariff by 11 paisa per unit for domestic users and by 15 paisa per unit for industrial users on Friday. The new rates will be effective from June 16 to March 31, 2025.

This hike will not affect most domestic consumers since the government provides 300 units of free power per consumer, and the agricultural sector also receives free power.

The Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission stated that from April 1 to June 15, the tariff will follow the 2023-24 tariff order.

The commission has decided to implement the kVAh tariff and contract demand system for domestic users with loads over 20 kW starting January 1, 2025.

The special night tariff with 50% fixed charges for industrial consumers using electricity exclusively from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. will continue. This year’s variable energy charge is set at Rs 5.31 per kVAh.

Along with this industrial consumers can continue to use electricity at normal tariff during the extended hours from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Previously, the Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) submitted a petition seeking an aggregate revenue requirement of Rs 53,360.48 crore due to a projected revenue deficit of Rs 5,419.82 crore up to 2024-25. In 2022-23, there was a deficit of Rs 6,977.98 crore and a surplus of Rs 1,558.16 crore projected for 2024-25.
