PM Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed concerns on Wednesday regarding the purported lack of consensus within the INDIA bloc regarding a prime ministerial candidate. Reports suggest that the bloc is considering a one-year prime minister formula due to the inability to agree on a single face for the position. Speaking at a public gathering in Madhya Pradesh’s Betul, Modi emphasized his track record of ten years and highlighted the absence of a clear opposition candidate for the prime ministerial role.
“The country deserves to know who its prime ministerial candidate is. While I have a proven track record, the opposition alliance is struggling to present a unified face,” Modi remarked. He expressed alarm at the reported one-year-one-PM proposal, envisioning a scenario of five prime ministers in five years, likening it to a disconcerting daydream.
Modi criticized the notion of “auctioning” the prime minister’s chair, where one individual would occupy the position while others await their turn, terming it as a perilous proposition that could undermine the country’s stability and progress. With the second phase of voting approaching on April 26, Modi intensified his rhetoric, alleging that the Congress had suggested in its manifesto a redistribution of wealth, a claim dismissed by the Congress.

Furthermore, Modi highlighted historical perspectives, citing Babasaheb Ambedkar’s opposition to the religion-based reservation and the consensus among Constitution makers against it. He accused the Congress of attempting to manipulate quotas for political gain, citing instances in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka where they allegedly sought to change reservation systems for their benefit.
Modi also criticized recent statements by Telangana’s chief minister, alleging promises of religion-based reservations, accusing the Congress and its allies of prioritizing appeasement politics over genuine welfare measures.
