On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will convene a meeting of senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders in Chennai as part of preparations for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
The meeting, scheduled for 11 AM at a hotel in the Guindy area, will likely focus on election planning, coordination with alliance partners, and efforts to strengthen the party’s position in the state.
The development comes as campaigning gathers pace in neighbouring Puducherry, where Assembly elections are set for 9 April.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), comprising the BJP, NR Congress, AIADMK and other allies, is contesting the polls together.
PM Modi arrived in Chennai on Friday from New Delhi and later travelled to Puducherry, where the Prime Minister led a roadshow in support of NDA candidates. The event drew large crowds and sought to energise party workers ahead of the vote.
After completing the campaign programme, the Prime Minister returned to Chennai in the evening and held informal discussions with senior BJP leaders and alliance representatives.
Key leaders, including Piyush Goyal, Sudhakar Reddy, Arvind Menon, Nainar Nagenthran, and L Murugan, will likely attend Saturday’s meeting. Other senior figures such as Pon Radhakrishnan, Tamilisai Soundararajan, K Annamalai and Vanathi Srinivasan are also likely to participate.
Sources indicated that the Prime Minister is likely to urge leaders to improve upon previous electoral performances and intensify grassroots mobilisation.
The meeting is likely to conclude around midday, after which the Prime Minister will remain in Chennai briefly for further interactions with alliance leaders and candidates.
The visit focuses on internal discussions, with no public events scheduled in the city during this phase.
