PM Narendra Modi Says TMC May Fail To Win Seats In Several Bengal Districts

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday asserted that the Trinamool Congress would fail to win even a single seat in some districts during the ongoing Assembly elections in West Bengal.

Addressing a rally in Baruipur in South 24 Parganas, PM Modi said the voting pattern in the first phase indicated a strong anti-incumbency trend, with a record turnout on Thursday. He added that the second phase on April 29 should surpass this participation, expressing confidence that voters would ensure the defeat of the ruling party.

The Prime Minister also criticised what he termed an ‘anti-national ambience’ at Jadavpur University, alleging threats, slogans and a lack of a proper academic environment on campus. He questioned the state government’s ability to govern effectively if it could not maintain order in a premier educational institution.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee responded strongly via social media, defending the university and its students. She questioned the Prime Minister’s remarks and highlighted the institution’s consistent performance in national rankings under the NIRF framework.

CM Mamta emphasised that students at the university earn their place through merit and are equipped with critical thinking abilities, rejecting any characterisation of their actions as disorderly.

At the rally, PM Modi also accused the Trinamool Congress government of neglecting socially backward classes and obstructing the implementation of welfare and development schemes introduced by the Union government.

The exchange marks an intensifying political contest in West Bengal, with both sides sharpening their rhetoric ahead of the remaining phases of polling.
