PM Narendra Modi Likely To Visit Australia, Indonesia And New Zealand In July

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will likely visit Australia in July as part of a broader regional tour that will also include Indonesia and New Zealand, according to media reports citing official and diplomatic sources.

As per a report by The Australia Today, PM Modi is likely to travel to Indonesia first, followed by a visit to New Zealand on July 7 and 8, before arriving in Australia for a two-day visit on July 9 and 10.

The trip would mark his return to Australia amid strengthening strategic, economic, and diaspora ties between the two countries.

The report indicated that official engagements are expected in both Sydney and Melbourne.

The office of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is keen to host Prime Minister Modi in Sydney for formal discussions aimed at reinforcing bilateral cooperation.

Melbourne will likely host the main public event involving the Indian diaspora.

Officials from both countries have reportedly conducted preliminary inspections of two venues in the city. The venues have capacities of around 14,000 and over 35,000, respectively.

Both locations offer suitable indoor infrastructure for Melbourne’s winter conditions, leading to their shortlisting.

The visit has also sparked interest among business and community organisations seeking to host high-level engagements.

The Australia India Business Council, marking its 40th anniversary this year, is working to secure a special event with PM Modi, while the Australia-India CEO Forum is also in contention. Discussions are ongoing, and the process will likely select only one organisation.

PM Narendra Modi last visited Sydney in May 2023 at Anthony Albanese’s invitation for the Quad Leaders’ Summit. He held bilateral talks, met business leaders and addressed the Indian diaspora.

The visit followed Anthony Albanese’s State Visit to India earlier that year. The two sides signed key agreements, including the Migration and Mobility Partnership Arrangement and collaboration on green hydrogen.
