PM Narendra Modi Reviews State Preparedness On West Asia Tensions; Assures Fuel Supply Stability

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led a video conference with Chief Ministers to review how states are preparing for any fallout from the ongoing West Asia tensions. The interaction centred on coordination and readiness measures across the country.

Leaders from states currently facing elections were not part of the discussion due to the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct. Their non-participation adhered to established electoral norms.

Earlier, the Union government had called an all-party meeting to deliberate on the evolving situation in West Asia.

The Prime Minister also addressed both Houses of Parliament to brief members on the issue and the government’s response.

The confrontation involving Israel, the United States and Iran, which began on 28 February, has affected the global energy movement.

Authorities are closely tracking developments to mitigate any potential disruptions.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas confirmed that the availability of petroleum products and LPG remains adequate nationwide. It emphasised that fuel stations are fully stocked and there is no scarcity of petrol, diesel or LPG in any region.

The Ministry further cautioned citizens against believing a deliberately mischievous, coordinated campaign of misinformation. It said this campaign is being carried out to spread unjustified panic.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that India is actively engaging with relevant nations. The aim is to secure safe transit routes for its energy cargo.

“We have kept you informed about the Indian ships that have so far crossed the Strait of Hormuz. Four ships laden with LPG have arrived in India after crossing the Strait safely. We continue to be in touch with all concerned countries for the safe transit of our ships to meet our energy requirements,” he said.

Jaiswal added that India bases its energy sourcing strategy on the needs of its 1.4 billion citizens, prevailing market trends, and the global geopolitical environment.

“You are well aware of a broad approach to sourcing energy needs. It is based on our imperative to secure the needs of 1.4 billion people, the dynamics of the market and the global situation. These three issues are vital for our decision-making,” he further noted.

The government’s ongoing review and coordinated response underline its focus on maintaining stability.

Officials continue to monitor the situation closely while ensuring uninterrupted energy supplies and public reassurance.
