Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the Samrat Samprati Museum at Koba Tirth in Gandhinagar on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti, and toured its galleries showcasing rare artefacts and the evolution of Jainism.
The Mahavir Jain Aradhana Kendra campus houses the museum, and it honours Samrat Samprati, grandson of Emperor Ashoka, who actively promoted non-violence and Jain philosophy.
The museum serves as a repository of Jain heritage and presents seven distinct wings, each showcasing different facets of India’s civilisational and spiritual traditions while offering a chronological journey through the evolution of Jainism.
During his visit, the Prime Minister explored the galleries and viewed a wide range of exhibits, including intricately crafted stone and metal idols, Tirth Patta and Yantra Patta, miniature paintings, silver chariots, coins, and ancient manuscripts.
Officials stated that the museum houses more than 2,000 rare artefacts, preserving centuries-old traditions and collections associated with Jain philosophy and practice.
The galleries blend traditional displays with modern digital and audio-visual installations, creating an immersive experience for visitors, scholars, and researchers.
In a message shared earlier, the Prime Minister noted that the museum highlights India’s rich cultural heritage and showcases the enduring contributions of Jainism to humanity.
The Prime Minister is including the inauguration in his Gujarat visit and will attend multiple programmes during the day.
